Separating Self-Worth From Material Worth

by johnlazy on December 12, 2008

Is your self-worth depends on how many achievements you have? Or how many material things you own? Is it possible to have a high self-esteem if you don’t have material wealth?

Can you separate self-worth from material worth? Material things are high on demand. You should have nice dress, nice car, nice job, every material things society dictates because material things is worth the effort. After achieving material worth, then you can feel good about yourself.

Well that is the measuring guide of every individual right now. You should accomplish something first before you feel good about yourself. That is one of the eleven rules of life by Bill Gates. But let’s see if we can have self-worth without material worth and material worth without self-worth.

We must try to separate the self -worth first without having material worth. First things first, character of a person. The character of a person and his ideals are one of the engaging force that have much worth than any material things you’ve ever desire, because you can make people wealthy without spending a single cent by providing necessary wisdom to any person.

Most of the great people don’t ever recognize wealth. They don’t care if they have a lot of money or have nothing. The important thing for them is to help people in any way they can to be better people’s soul and people’s lives. The number one priority for them is to send the message loud and clear and if they are rewarded for that, which is just a bonus for them. This is one way I can see that creating self-worth without material worth.

Material worth on the other hand can also be done without self-worth. There a lot of people now who have such a massive wealth on their resume without considering their self-worth. They will do whatever it takes to reach certain goal without engaging in fair transaction, and sometimes lead to bloody ends. But they won’t care, because material worth is their priority.

How about if we combine the two? Creating a self-worth with material worth, that sounds better and it is an ideal situation. While building your richness you can also build your positive self-image and it is worth the cent and the pride. That would be a great position to be in.

Do you think separating self-worth from material worth is a good idea? It is like separating your business life to your personal life. That if you are in business, you mean business. Same on personal life it should not be drag on commercial dealings.

So do you consider separating self-worth from material worth could make a significant impact on individuals? Or you can’t really do that because it goes together.

Is your self-worth- worth more than your material worth? Or your material worth valued more than your self-worth?

interesting thoughts which we muslims should live for. actually that is what our faith is calling us for. in simple words, we should live this life as if we are going to live for ever, and we live for the day after as if we are going to dead tommorow. if we could think that way, we should achieved what you have suggested, combine the two options.

Thanks for dropping by Mohammed and I know you also has a nice mindset in your arsenal. Living life as if there is no tomorrow is a good practice because you can live your life to the fullest. Take care!

Honestly, I always value my self-worth than the material worth. Unfortunately, not all of us have the same mindset and there are some people who would do everything just to ruin a person to gain ‘material things’…

I also think self-worth is more precious than material worth. People have different triggering point in achieving something whether it could lead to good or bad results sometimes they won’t even care. Take care Ma’am Snow!
