External Branding Of Yourself

by johnlazy on October 20, 2008

External branding is how you want people to perceive you. You can’t avoid people labeling you on what they think of who you are as a person. And you can’t avoid labeling them also. It automatically happens because our brains recognize patterns of behavior and habits. People attach to this and that’s why they labeled you in such a way they observe you.

Sometimes people will brand you differently. When you are with your family you act in a certain way. If you are with your friends you behave in another way. How you dress, how you talk, how you eat will contribute to that branding and that will stock in people’s mind.

You can decide what to wear, how to behave, and how to move in order to convey a certain image. You can deliberately aim for this specific type of image. Your projected image will influence people on what they think of you and how they interact with you.

I think the best external image to reflect is the one that best describe of who you really are. Just be honest to yourself and be who you are.

Doing something your not will not make you happy. Don’t pretend to be somebody you’re not, you just only show a lack of acceptance of who you really are as a person. The mindset that assumes that you have to pretend to be someone or to be somebody else in order to get what you want, can only project a false image that disconnect you from your own true self.

Example if someone is projecting a false image of himself/herself, you can immediately notice it and you can brand them in a negative way, that situation can apply to you also if you’re projecting a false image.

On the other hand, if you project an image that fits you, it will certainly express you in a positive way. Like, if you’re a friendly person or lovable. You’re broadcasting a harmonious message. But if you’re rude to others and you don’t care about people, they will also treat you that way.

Paying attention to your external image and becoming aware of how others will see you will help you identify blind spots within yourself. They will help you grow as a person and can make you better individual. But don’t forget the best way to be you is to be yourself.
